讲座内容:

Modern slavery, including human trafficking, servitude, and forced labour, is a major contemporary, global problem. Although the criminal, underground nature of modern slavery makes it difficult to estimate accurately the extent of its activity around the world, tens of millions of people are thought to be affected. New legislation has been introduced, including in the UK, that coerces organisations into increasing the transparency of their supply chains. The UK’s 2015 Modern Slavery Act requires commercial organisations with a turnover in excess of £36 million to prepare an annual slavery and human trafficking statement outlining the steps taken to ensure slavery is not occurring in any part of the business and, importantly, supply chain. This presentation provides an examination of the statements released by 101 firms in the clothing and textiles sector, identifying how organisations detect and remediate modern slavery in their operations and supply chains; and exploring their approaches to information disclosure. This breadth of insight is complemented by an action research project with an organisation that adds depth of understanding.
